Amizade Update

6-11-08

Amizade is pleased to introduce three very exciting initiatives!

We have begun a cooperative effort to promote internationalization and global understanding throughout the Pittsburgh-Morgantown region with our recent Water Walks for Women's Rights. The Water Walks aimed to foster a heightened awareness of global water issues and to encourage students to actively participate in service opportunities locally and abroad. Through the Walks, Amizade has built new relationships with partner organizations, local schools, and the community that will allow us to generate a stronger presence in the Pittsburgh regional area. Please take a moment to watch a brief, very inspiring video created during the Pittsburgh Water Walk.

We have also established open volunteer programs for the summer and fall. These programs allow individuals of any age to forge intercultural friendships and make an impact through participation in a group of volunteers. Please spread the word about these flexible service opportunities!

Finally, we would like to share some exciting outcomes from our spring break service-learning programs. Students returning from the Navajo Nation and Jamaica Spring Breaks reported that their "lives were changed." Most importantly, our community partners conveyed parks built, children tutored, and understandings challenged and deepened. Space is still available for some of our summer courses. Check out course availability today!

Whether through service, learning, promoting or contributing, I hope you can connect with the opportunity to make a difference through Amizade.

Sincerely,

Eric Hartman

Executive Director
